Local, friendly technology support

About TLC Tech - Meet Tom and Tabby

TLC Tech is an Isle of Wight technology support business run by Tom and Tabby Carter. We believe getting help with technology should feel friendly, straightforward and personal — whether you are inviting us into your home or trusting us with the IT your business depends on.

Know who you're dealing with

Real people, not an anonymous helpdesk

We know that trust matters, particularly when you are asking someone to come into your home, work on your computer or help with accounts containing personal information. That's one reason we want you to know who TLC Tech actually is before you book.

Local and accountable

TLC Tech is based in Ryde on the Isle of Wight. We are not a national call centre or anonymous online support service.

Someone you can come back to

Our aim is to build long-term relationships with customers, so you know who to contact the next time technology causes a problem.

Our story

Why we started TLC Tech

Technology can be brilliant when it works properly. But when Wi-Fi drops out, email stops syncing, a printer refuses to print or a computer suddenly becomes painfully slow, it can quickly become frustrating.

TLC Tech was created to provide the sort of technology support we think people actually want: somebody approachable who will listen, work out what is wrong and explain the solution without making you feel that you should already understand it.

We also believe in honest advice. Sometimes something needs repairing. Sometimes an upgrade makes sense. Sometimes the best advice is not to spend any more money on it at all.

“You do not need to know the technical words or even know exactly what has gone wrong. Just tell us what the problem looks like from your point of view — that's what we're here for.”
The people behind TLC Tech

A little more about us

TLC Tech is deliberately personal. When you get in touch, these are the people behind the emails, phone calls, bookings and technical support.

Tom Carter from TLC Tech
Technical support & solutions

Tom Carter

Tom has more than 20 years of experience helping homes and businesses with technology. His work ranges from PCs, laptops, Wi-Fi and everyday troubleshooting to Microsoft 365, networks, websites, domains and larger business IT projects.

He particularly enjoys taking something complicated, working out how it fits together and then explaining it in a way that actually makes sense.

Away from work

Technology has been a genuine interest for Tom for most of his life, not simply a job. He has been a PC gamer for decades and still enjoys PCs, gaming, networking, AI and new technology — as well as the inevitable tinkering that comes with them.

So if your visit occasionally turns into a conversation about computers, gaming hardware or some interesting new bit of technology, you probably won't have to twist his arm.

Tabby Carter from TLC Tech
Customer care & organisation

Tabby Carter

Tabby helps keep TLC Tech organised, welcoming and personal. She helps with bookings, communication and the day-to-day running of the business, making sure customers are looked after from their first contact onwards.

The technical work may often happen behind a screen, inside a computer or in a network cabinet, but good support also depends on clear communication and making things easy for the customer. That's a big part of Tabby's role.

A family-run feel

Together, Tom and Tabby want TLC Tech to feel like the sort of local business where customers know who they are speaking to and feel comfortable getting back in touch whenever they need help.

From everyday problems to bigger projects

Home technology and serious business IT

One of the things we enjoy about TLC Tech is the variety. One appointment might involve helping someone get their printer working or setting up a new laptop. Another might involve designing Wi-Fi coverage, configuring Microsoft 365 or working on a complete business network.

The same principle applies to both: understand what the customer actually needs, make the technology reliable and avoid unnecessary complication.

The network cabinet shown here is an example of the sort of larger business infrastructure TLC Tech also works with.

What guides us

What you can expect from TLC Tech

Technical knowledge matters, but so does how people are treated when they ask for help.

Friendly & patient

We take the time to listen, explain clearly and work at a pace that suits you.

Plain-English advice

You should not need to speak fluent IT to get help. We explain the important bits without hiding behind jargon.

Clear pricing

We explain costs before additional chargeable work continues and avoid unnecessary surprises.

People first

The goal is not simply to fix a device. It is to make the technology less stressful for the person using it.

Local support

Home visits are available across the Isle of Wight, with remote support available where it makes sense.

Honest recommendations

We would rather recommend the sensible option than sell something you do not need.
